Sharing

TrackOut lets you create public, read-only share links for a car profile, a single part, a service record, or an entire part group. Anyone with the link can view the shared page in their browser -- no TrackOut account required. Signed-in recipients can also copy shared parts into their own wish list.

Open the thing you want to share and click its share button. Sharing is available on:

  • A car, from the Public page button in the car's header (see Sharing a car profile)
  • Any part detail
  • Any service record detail
  • Any part group detail

For part groups and collection-style shares, choose what to include:

  • Parts -- include each part's details and URL
  • Service records -- include each service record (with any linked parts)

New part, service record, and group links leave out what you paid. Turn on Include prices before creating the link to show part prices, service costs, and totals. Links created before this switch existed keep showing prices until you hide them.

Click Create share link when prompted, or use Copy in a car's Public page drawer. Paste the URL anywhere -- text message, email, forum thread, or your favorite racing group chat.

Only you can share

Share links can only be created by the owner of the item. Viewing a shared link does not give the viewer the ability to re-share it.

Sharing a car profile

Every car has a public profile that starts Private. Open the car and click Public page in the car hero. One drawer holds everything a visitor sees, top to bottom:

  • A preview of the page -- before you publish it, too.
  • Whether the page is shared: Make private while it is, or a note that the page is private with Turn on link sharing.
  • Public page style -- pick the style visitors see (see the table below).
  • Public link with Copy, Open public page, and Reset link, then Share to X, Facebook, or email -- plus Share… for your device's share sheet where the browser offers one.
  • What's shown -- the page always shows the car's specs and your first name; hide any spec row with its eye in Build → Specs (Edit specs closes the drawer and takes you there). Below that, Modifications lists your parts to feature on the page, each with an optional product link -- this is the one place a part is featured, and a featured part also shows under its system in Build → Specs -- and On the public profile has a switch for each of Mileage, Ownership length, Location, Car number, What it's for, Service history, Photos, Car photos, Personal bests (Pit Board), Clubs (your MotorsportReg clubs and associations), and Total invested. Every switch is off until you turn it on. Location, Car number, and What it's for print nothing until you fill them in under Build → Specs' Car details fold -- the drawer says so next to the switch.

Car profiles can include:

  • Basic identity: photo, nickname, year, make, model, trim, color, car number, and location.
  • Your owner's story and what the car is for (Daily, Weekend, Track, or Project -- the What it's for toggle).
  • Your specs rows -- the typed columns (final drive, exhaust, camber plates, bushings, brake fluid, fuel, MPG, curb weight) and any free-form rows you added, grouped by system exactly as you see them in Build → Specs. Ownership rows (VIN or chassis number, purchase price, owned-since, interior, window sticker) are never part of this section; each has its own toggle. To keep a spec row off the public page, switch its eye off in Build → Specs -- hidden rows are left out of the page entirely.
  • Selected modifications, with optional outbound product links. A linked mod names the site it points to, so visitors can see where a link goes before opening it.
  • Service history, personal bests, ownership length, mileage, and total invested -- each controlled by its own visibility toggle, and each off until you turn it on. The Mileage toggle covers both the profile summary and odometer readings on service-history rows. With Mileage off, service history still lists dates and work -- not odometer numbers.
  • Public photos attached to the car when Photos is turned on. Photos marked Only me never appear on the shared page; an event is optional.
  • Your extra car photos (the ones beneath the cover in the Photos section of Build → Specs' Car details fold) when Car photos is turned on. Off by default; the cover photo is always part of the profile. With it on, every extra photo is shared unless you switch that photo's eye off in Car details -- hidden photos stay out of the page, and hiding one also expires any previously copied link to it.

The preview renders the same page a visitor gets, from the same switches, so it shows exactly what publishing would share. While sharing is off it carries a Preview · not published badge; nobody else can see the page until you turn link sharing on. Picking a style updates the preview instantly. On phones, the drawer scrolls so the preview, public link, and share targets all remain reachable.

Build → Specs also carries a band that says whether the page is Anyone with link or Private, names its style, and has a Public page button that opens the same drawer.

A car needs its year, make, and model before it can be shared -- the public page is headed by them. Until they're filled in (in Car details under Build → Specs), Turn on link sharing stays unavailable and tells you which ones are missing.

The style you pick under Public page style is the one the page opens in.

StyleBest for
BuildsheetA clean, mono-inspired build sheet with your chosen specs and mods. MotorsportReg association badges are not shown in this style.
Pit BoardA darker motorsport-style page that highlights car number, use, personal bests, and your MotorsportReg clubs when Clubs is on. Pit Board leads with personal bests, so the drawer reminds you to turn them on if they are off.

Private by default

Turning on link sharing (Anyone with link) makes the profile visible to people who have the URL. Public car pages are always excluded from search engines.

Make private takes the profile down immediately. The URL stops returning your car for everyone -- including you -- and anyone who opens it gets a "page not found" response, exactly as if the link had never existed. The browser tab reads Page Not Found | TrackOut, and the link preview stops naming your car too. Turning link sharing back on republishes the same URL you were using. It does not revive older leftover car links that were hidden while the profile was private.

If a link reached someone it shouldn't have, use Reset link under the public link in the Public page drawer. After you confirm, the old URL stops working for good and the drawer shows a new one to share instead. Photo links copied from the old page stop working too; the new link shows the same photos. Resetting keeps your current privacy setting: a private car stays private with its new link ready for when you turn sharing on.

Public photos stay free

Every plan can upload public photos and attach them to an event, a car, or both. Only me photos require a car and use that car's private-photo allowance: 25 on Free or 250 on Club and higher plans. Making a private photo public frees its private slot and counts toward your public photo limit.

Open the same Share dialog to see every link you've created for that item. Each row shows the URL and two controls:

  • Switch (on/off) -- Pause or resume a link. When disabled, anyone who opens the link sees a "Link disabled" page. Flip it back on at any time.
  • Trash (delete) -- Permanently remove the link. The URL stops working and disappears from your list.
  • Prices (show/hide) -- Choose whether this link shows part prices, service costs, and totals. The change applies to the live link right away.

Use the Switch when you want to temporarily restrict access (e.g. during a private testing session) without losing the URL. Use Trash when the share is truly done.

Old photo links expire

Switching the car profile back to Private, disabling or deleting a share, or deleting the car also expires previously copied links to a car photo stored in TrackOut -- a saved link to that file stops working. Turning Car photos off expires links to the extra photos the same way while the cover stays reachable. Event photos follow their own setting: a photo stays reachable by link while it is Public, and its link expires when you mark it Only me.

Settings → Shared links lists every public link you have live right now, newest first: car public pages, shared parts, service records and part groups, setup sheets, published research reports, and report snapshots. Each row names what it shows and which car it belongs to, with:

  • Open -- view the public page in a new tab, exactly as a visitor sees it.
  • Copy -- copy the full URL.
  • Stop sharing -- take the link down after you confirm. Anyone who opens it afterwards sees that it is no longer shared.

Stopping a link here does the same thing as stopping it where you created it. A car page goes Private (turning link sharing back on brings the same URL back); a part, service record or group link is disabled (switch it back on from that item's Share dialog); a setup sheet or research report goes private for good, and sharing it again makes a new link. Stopping a report snapshot deletes its frozen copy.

Links that no longer work are left out: disabled or private links, and links to anything on a car that is in the trash. Every Share dialog and the car's Public page drawer link here with See all shared links in Settings.

What viewers see

When someone opens a car profile link, they see the public style you selected and only the fields you turned on. Hidden fields are omitted from the page rather than shown as blank.

For parts, service records, and groups, viewers see a clean read-only share view:

  • The item's name and your first name as the sharer
  • A summary strip showing item count, plus the total price when you included prices
  • The parts list with manufacturer, part number, description, product links, and price (when included)
  • Service records with date, description, any linked parts, and cost (when included)

Viewers can browse anonymously -- no signup required.

Privacy

Share pages never expose your email, full name, internal IDs, owner-only data, private notes, vendors, or service-record odometer readings -- and never your VIN or race chassis number unless you explicitly enable Share vehicle identifier. Existing VIN-sharing settings continue to apply only to VINs, never chassis numbers. Only the data you choose is rendered, and share pages are excluded from search engines. Receipts, part attachments, and other private documents never appear on a share page.

Copy to wish list

At the bottom of every shared parts view, a sticky Add to your TrackOut wish list button lets the viewer copy selected parts into their own inventory.

Signed-in viewers

If the viewer is already signed in, clicking the button copies the selected parts to their wish list immediately (status Wish list).

New viewers

If the viewer doesn't have a TrackOut account, they can sign up inline:

  1. Continue with Google (OAuth)
  2. Sign up with email (email verification required)
  3. Or sign in if they already have an account

After signup or sign-in, the copy completes automatically -- even if email verification takes them out to their inbox and back, as long as they finish within an hour.

What gets copied

For each selected part, a new part is created in the viewer's inventory with:

  • Name, manufacturer, part number, description
  • URL, link preview, and purchase price (only if the link includes prices)
  • Status: Wish list
  • An attribution note linking back to the share and the original owner

The original owner's private notes and vendor are never copied.

Service records are not copyable -- they're display-only on the share page.

Tips

  • One link per configuration. Creating a second identical link just copies the existing one rather than making duplicates.
  • Bulk add. The share page selects all parts by default so the viewer can hit Add immediately. They can uncheck any they don't want.
  • Receipt-duplicated parts. If a set of 4 wheels shows as a single row with a × 4 badge, the viewer will get all 4 wheels added as separate parts when they copy.
