Checklists

Checklists let you track tasks for each car in your garage -- pre-track prep, post-session teardown, wash routines, or anything else you want to remember. Access them from the Checklists button on any car's detail page or from the Checklists link in the main sidebar.

Creating a checklist

From a car's detail page, click the Checklists button to open the checklist panel. At the bottom, you have two options:

  • New Checklist -- Creates a blank checklist. Enter a name and press Enter, then add items one at a time.
  • From Template -- Creates a checklist pre-filled with items from one of your saved templates. Only appears if you have templates set up.

Each checklist belongs to a single car. The same template can be applied to different cars to create independent copies.

Working with items

Once a checklist is open, you can:

  • Check off items by clicking the checkbox next to each one
  • Add new items using the "+ Add item" input at the bottom of the list
  • Remove items by hovering over an item and clicking the X button

Items are displayed in the order they were added. Checked items show a strikethrough to make it easy to see what is left.

Completing a checklist

When every item in a checklist is checked off, a green All done! banner appears with a Save to History button. Clicking it archives the checklist -- it moves from the Active tab to the History tab with all item states preserved.

No auto-archive

Checklists are never archived automatically. You control when a checklist is "done" by clicking Save to History. This lets you add more items or uncheck things before finishing.

Archived checklists can be reopened from the History tab if needed.

Templates

Templates are reusable item lists that you create once and apply to any car. They live at the account level, not per-car.

Managing templates

Click the gear icon in the checklist panel header to open the template manager. From there you can:

  • Create a template with a name, optional description, and a list of items
  • Edit template items -- add or remove items from existing templates
  • Delete templates -- removes the template but does not affect checklists already created from it

Starter templates

When you open the New Template form, a row of starter pills appears above the name field. Click one to pre-fill the name, description, and items -- then edit freely (rename it, tweak items, add or remove lines) before saving. Starters are a jumping-off point, not a locked-in format.

Three starters ship today:

StarterWhat it covers
Track Day PrepNight-before and morning-of prep -- fluids, tire pressures, torque checks, gear packing, tech and registration
Post-Track DebriefAfter-event teardown -- tire and brake inspection, leak checks, session notes, follow-up scheduling
Wash DayTwo-bucket hand wash and detail routine -- pre-rinse, foam, wash, dry, wheels, wax, interior

Loading a starter over in-progress edits

If the form already has a name, description, or items you've typed, TrackOut asks for confirmation before replacing them with a starter. Cancel to keep your edits, or confirm to load the starter.

Global checklists view

The Checklists page in the main sidebar shows all active checklists across every car, grouped by car name. This gives you a single view of everything that needs attention without navigating to each car individually.

Crew Chief integration

The Crew Chief AI advisor can view and create checklists for you. Try asking:

  • "What checklists does my E46 have?"
  • "Create a pre-track checklist for my Miata"
  • "Create a checklist from my Pre-Track template for the M3"

The Crew Chief will show you a confirmation before creating anything, so you can review the details first.

Tips

  • Use templates for repeated routines -- If you run the same checklist before every track day, save it as a template so you can apply it with one click instead of re-creating items each time.
  • Keep checklists short -- A focused 5--10 item checklist is more useful than a 30-item exhaustive list. Break large workflows into separate checklists.
  • Check the global view before events -- The Checklists page in the sidebar shows all active lists across your fleet, making it easy to see what still needs doing before a track day.
  • Archive when done -- Saving to History keeps a record of what you completed and when, which can be useful for reference later.
